How to Get from San José Airport to Santa Teresa ?
Car
Renting a car gives you the freedom to explore at your own pace. From the airport, you’ll drive to the ferry terminal at Puntarenas (about 1.5–2 hours). There, you’ll take the ferry to Paquera, a scenic trip lasting about 1.5 hours. Once in Paquera, Santa Teresa is approximately an hour’s drive.
- Route: Follow Route 1 towards Puntarenas and take the ferry to Paquera. After arriving, follow the main road towards Cobano, then head to Santa Teresa.
- Tips: It’s recommended to check the ferry schedule ahead of time to avoid waiting, especially during weekends and holidays. Also, renting a 4×4 is ideal, as some roads in the area can be rough.
Shuttle
Taking a shuttle is convenient and comfortable, with door-to-door service directly from San José Airport to Santa Teresa.

Plane via Cobano (nearest airport to Santa Teresa)
Flying is the fastest way to get close to Santa Teresa. You’ll take a quick 25-minute flight from San José to Tambor Airport. From there, Santa Teresa is a 30-minute drive by taxi or shuttle.
- Airlines: Local airlines offer multiple flights daily from San José to Cobanor. Be sure to book in advance, especially during peak season.
